When it Stings, Sing

Sometimes the right words are hard to find.

It's not always easy to speak your mind.

Especially if you want those thoughts to be well received.

There's always a chance the listener gets deceived.

And when I speak or when I write, but the same words are repeated...

Some might think that's superfluous and should be deleted.

But if instead you sing,

the chorus is where you say the same thing.

Over and over you express the same feeling

and you can ask, do you hear what I'm dealing

with. The ways that I'm reeling

The things I wanna stop concealing

The things I've wanted to start revealing

Sometimes I don't know how to say things with the right expressions,

whether it's the right words, facial cues, or inflections.

Sometimes I wish people could read my mind,

good intentions is what they'd find.

I hope they don't think they have to read between my lines,

I want only to be honest and genuine.

So perhaps what I need is a song,

that's sung from the heart with a voice trying to be strong.

I'd let it all out - the good, the right, and the wrong

and then I'd be able to express what I've been meaning all along.

A Conversation with Myself

Leave this cit/adel
     where relying on circumstances
     is like a massive wall
     guarding a fortress of fear

Run away from this hom/icide
     murdered is my good intention,
     slain is someone's trust,
     dead are dreams and amendments

Go back to famil/iarizing myself
     with Wisdom's face,
     with God's grace,
with Kingdom vision on which my worldview I base

Let It Be

Let out
     like streams that flow
     like gates that have flown
               wide open
     like children on a snow
               day
     like childlike faith full grown

Let down
     as unfulfilled expectation
     as repeated rejection
     as increased introspection
               given the greatest glimmers go
               out

Let go
     of my shiny dreams
     of my shaky foundation
     of my short sight
     of my small faith

Smrow

Today is a very rainy day
You've decided to come out and play
Lying still on the pavement with the dust and decay

Today the sun is very awake
You've emerged for warmth sake
Dry, displaced, beginning to bake

Why don't you stay in your safe earthy bed?
Stop dreaming of adventure in your head?
Don't you know you might end up dead?

But it's dark down here
Doing the exact same thing each year
And truly I fear

If the risk isn't taken
Then I lived life never awakened

The Ebb

There's an ebb and flow.
I don't know where to go.
It takes me to and fro.
To places I don't know.
And places of familiarity.
Face to face with fear,
And feelings I cannot bear.
So I run
To where I was from
A time of malign
Paradigm
But a place
I found grace
And they keep reminding me
Who I was made to be
Free

Forgetting Freedom

If only
it weren't so easy
to forget so often
If only
it weren't so difficult
to feel once more
the moment you
set me free,
unraveled my heart to see
 the instant you
gave me new life,
saved me from eternal strife
how beautiful
of a love
you have for me.
by captivating my once
dysfunctional heart of
stone.

Relishing Realism

Realness, rawness that I can feel
and genuineness against my fingernails.

Finding that the possibility
can become a reality.

Making the divide grow closer and closer
until all that remains is nothing supposed.

To satisfy my heart's desire
please don't relent the flames of your fire.

Beauty is when
you let yourself be truly your own again.

Bears & Chairs

There once was a girl named Claire,
Who loved to chew gummy bears,
One day a find,
She changed her mind,
And now she eats her chairs.

In Love with Lotion

There once lived a boy by the ocean,
Who daily applied his floral-y lotion,
It smelled of flowers,
To enhance his powers,
Causing girls to run with sickened emotion.

Wintery Treats

We see one, two, numberless snowflakes.
It continues to fall steadily without any break.
It’s a sign that winter is finally here,
the season of welcoming a brand new year.
For now, inside our warm cozy home we stay,
waiting for the snow to stop so we can go out and play.
To greet the new season we make some wintery treats,
fun to eat and simple and sweet.
We start by making gingerbread men.
taking out the cookie cutters and frosting once again.
The aroma of the batter brings back memories from years before,
we roll out the dough and cut out gingerbread men galore.
Then we stick them in the oven to let them bake,
Once they’re ready we take them out to decorate.
The cookies are done but we certainly aren’t,
how can you eat them without the final part?
We stir chocolate and warm milk in a mug,
then add marshmallows for the final touch.
A crunch and a sip until it’s all gone.
The treats were delightful, I think as I yawn.
The snowflakes have all fallen and we can go play,
but we’ve had enough fun making goodies today.
All that’s left is a sugary trace of gingerbread and chocolate,
But it’s the memories of togetherness that really please my head.

Falling

Falling is inevitable. It's only a matter of time, before things decay and disappear.
Empires fall apart, wars will start, human lives end, you lose a friend, spirits are crushed, good fruit is smushed, relationships are torn, animosity is born, possessions are broken, hearts are stolen.
Perfection does not exist, when time holds the power to resist. It's a key we can never hold, an element out of our reach.
Even leaves on a tree know one day they will twist off the branches, disconnect from their mothers and float, flit, and twirl slowly to the ground, but they are prepared for the time to come. That's why leaves change colors in the Autumn - they know they're going to fall, so might as well do it with some grace and beauty.
Someday the fall will happen. Humans, objects, history will all be taken into its destructive grasp. But if we can predict the future and know that one day it will happen, we must embrace it. Accept the challenge and fall with style, elegance, and perhaps with a smile.
